It was reported on 3 February this year by the BBC that, according to HMRC, an estimated 1.1 million people missed the deadline for filing their annual tax return.
This means that a penalty of £100 will be imposed, unless a reasonable excuse for failure to file can be provided.
It’s important to get your return submitted as soon as possible, particularly as penalties will begin to increase 3 months after the filing deadline. This is in addition to late payment penalties if tax is due, which will begin to apply from 1 March 2025.
But don’t worry – if you haven’t been able to complete and file your return on time, give us a call. We can register with HMRC as your agent (which means we can deal with them directly about your self-assessment), complete and submit your return promptly, and make sure you are back on track for 2024/25.
